Outlook add-ins on Exchange Server without Microsoft 365
Deploy SecureMail, Disclaimer, SecureFiles, Archive and Awareness as Outlook add-ins for mailboxes on your own Exchange Server: manifest, pairing without typing a code, supported clients and limits.
The Conbool Outlook add-ins also run with mailboxes on your own Exchange Server. Microsoft 365 and Entra ID are not required. This applies to Conbool from the cloud as much as to an installation in your own data centre.

Supported clients
- Outlook classic on Windows. Compose and send events are supported by Microsoft with your own Exchange from Outlook version 2206.
- Outlook on the web of your own Exchange.
The new Outlook for Windows does not support mailboxes on your own Exchange Server. That is a limit of the client, not of the add-in.
Deploy
- In the portal, open the add-in page of the module, choose the
Exchange Servertab andDownload manifest. - In the Exchange admin center open
Organizationand thenAdd-ins. - Choose add, source
From file, and select the manifest. - Enable it for the whole organization.
The button then appears in Outlook and Outlook on the web. In Outlook classic this can take a while, because Outlook caches the list of add-ins.
The manifest from the Microsoft store is not compatible with your own Exchange. Exchange Server only accepts manifests up to API version 1.5, so the portal provides its own version.
Sign-in without typing a code
On your own Exchange there is no sign-in through Microsoft. Instead the manifest carries a pairing code. On first launch the add-in exchanges it for access that is valid for this add-in only. Nobody has to type anything.
Awareness identifies itself with the identity token that Exchange issues itself and needs no pairing code.
Every download of the manifest creates a new code. The manifest therefore does not belong in public storage.
Where the add-in connects
The manifest points to the installation the tenant uses: to your own Conbool installation if there is one, otherwise to the cloud.
Limits
- Archive: search and preview are available. Restoring a message into the mailbox is not yet available on Exchange Server.
- Archive and Awareness do not react to compose or send events. They are used through their button.
- Disclaimer: whether the signature appears on its own while composing is decided by the Outlook client. The signature through the send connector is reliable for every client, see connecting Exchange on-premises.
