Configuration
Three steps to a productive Conbool connection. The Setup Assistant guides you through every step automatically.
Before this: Account created, tenant set up, trial running or Full Version ordered. See Getting Started.
In three steps, your mail traffic flows through Conbool. The Setup Assistant under
Home → Setup(path/home/[account]/setup) guides through every step automatically. This page accompanies the wizard and links every detail page.
Before You Start
| Prerequisite | What for |
|---|---|
| Active Conbool tenant | Otherwise there's nothing to configure. If not yet created: Create a Tenant |
| Active subscription, Trial or Full Version | Modules are deactivated without an active subscription. The trial starts automatically when the tenant is created and runs for 30 days. See Subscription & Billing |
| Login at the DNS provider of the domain | For TXT, DKIM, and MX records in Step 1 |
| Admin access to the mail server | For Step 2. Microsoft 365 only needs Entra Admin Consent, other systems need direct MTA access |
Step 1. Enter Domain and Set DNS Records
What to do: Register the email domain in Conbool, then add four DNS records at the DNS provider.
Effort: 10 to 30 minutes plus DNS propagation, usually a few minutes.
→ Open 1. Domain & DNS Setup. The four records are listed there ready to copy, plus a step-by-step guide for the DNS provider.
Done when: All four DNS checks in the Setup Assistant show a green checkmark: TXT verification, SPF, DKIM, MX.
Step 2. Connect the Mail Server
What to do: Configure the mail server so that outbound emails flow through Conbool and inbound messages are accepted from Conbool.
Effort: 5 minutes for Microsoft 365 via wizard click, 30 to 60 minutes for manual setup.
→ Open 2. Connect Mail Server. The matching variant is picked there:
- Exchange Online for Microsoft 365
- Exchange On-Premises
- Open-Xchange
- SMTP Relay for Postfix, Sendmail, Zimbra, Kerio and others
Done when: The connection test in the Setup Assistant reports "SMTP reachable".
Step 3. Completion
In the final wizard step, the assistant displays a summary: domain, DNS records, relay host, MX records. Clicking Finish activates the configuration.
Done when: The tenant is marked "active". From this moment on, your email traffic flows through Conbool.
What Comes Next
With configuration complete, the following features are unlocked:
- SecureMail. Encryption and signing of outbound emails.
- MailGuard. Spam and virus protection for inbound emails.
- Disclaimer. Automatic email signatures and disclaimers.
Without the Wizard
The connection also works without the wizard, as long as Steps 1 and 2 are fully completed. The sidebar shows both steps as standalone pages with all detailed instructions. The MX record can be switched last to control the cutover timing.
